Fall Harvest
Last weekend, we went out to Strom's Farm in Guelph for a corn maze! I'd never done a corn maze before, and it was pretty fun finding our way through. We did have a map, so it didn't feel entirely like we were rats in a maze those psychologists make up...
I also really enjoyed the picture taking opportunities. The lighting was very good, and the colours were quite nice. It definitely felt more like fall after going, seeing all the "colours of fall." Oh and they had these massive ice cream sandwiches with large cookies made on-site in the bakery, and vanilla ice cream. They looked so good. But alas, I did not get one. I decided to be healthy. Maybe I will try to make my own :)
Unfortunately fall does not last for very long. I believe there were a couple days where one day the high temperature was 25C, and the next day it dropped to 13C (What happened to the 12 degrees in between??). I believe tomorrow's high temperature is 8C. Boo. It'll be dipping below zero as well at night. Sigh. Brace for winter I suppose.

DSLR!
After about three years of waiting and saving up money... I finally have a DSLR! Thanks to those who contributed to my 'fund' back in the day (I tried looking for the birthday card to see who signed it.. but couldn't find it in my box of cards), and a special thanks to ALychEeX who had the idea to start a fund in the first place! I didn't actually think I would be able to save up enough money for one (at least not so 'soon'), but putting aside a bit of money periodically through the years did add up! And since I bought a used body and lens, I probably paid about 50-55% of the original retail cost. Yay!
So this blog will most likely turn into more of a photoblog - which was actually my initial intention when I started the blog a few years ago. And hopefully my posts will be more frequent now, than my previous average of once every month or two.
Let's capture the moment.

Visual DNA
My friend did this on her blog :) Thought it was pretty cool, so I copied her.

A Vancouverite in Waterloo
So last night the weather was pretty bad.
Despite the freezing rain and the snow, seven of us decided to go and play tennis in the evening. It was definitely fun, since I booked the court for an hour, and we ended up playing for two-and-a-half hours... but when we left I got a taste of a real Ontario winter night.
The car was covered in a sheet of ice (as opposed to the frosty windows we get in Vancouver). We had some troubles getting out of the parking lot, so four pushed the car while I steered. Success. We drive to drop R off at home. Turning onto her street a bit, we then get stuck again. We get out and push again, but it doesn't work. We try backing up several times, but there's too much snow and we don't have a shovel. And S doesn't have winter tires on his car... K has an idea to put cardboard under the tires - it helps, but doesn't get us out. We see cars passing by, and as a car turns into a townhouse complex on the other side of the street, that car gets stuck too. Some of us go and help them in by pushing their car, and they succeed. They come and help us, another car stops and helps, and other cars slow and ask if we need help (but we decline because by this time we have about three or four random guys helping). R walks home to get a shovel, and the people from the townhouse complex across the street go and grab their shovel too. After shovelling and pushing we finally get out! And we're all drenched because during all of this, it was raining. Thanks to God for bringing kind strangers our way.
And since we were playing tennis, I was in my tennis clothes and runners, and not really dressed for that weather. I didn't even have mitts, so pushing the car was a bit hard. And so as I walked/jogged home from the main street (as S wouldn't be able to drive out if he drove onto my street) I wondered how funny it'd be if someone saw me jogging at 1AM with my tennis racquet slung around my shoulder. Or if they'd think I was just going for a jog in the nice weather :) Or just crazy.
All in all we each made it home safely. And another experience to add to the books :)
